2025 Guide - Kruger National Park Opening Hours

The Kruger National Park is one the world’s largest wildlife refuges that stretches for 19 455 km2 across the eastern regions of South Africa’s Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces.

Visitors access the Park through nine South African gates all situated on the western border of the reserve. There are five southern gates that are in Mpumalanga, while the more remote central and northern gates are in Limpopo.

Kruger Gate Hotel is ideally situated right at the Paul Kruger Gate, one of the best access points to the game-rich southern region, and also the closest gate to Skukuza Camp and the Kruger International Airport.

What can you expect at Paul Kruger Gate?

Visitors to the Park are welcomed at the gate where they pay a conservation fee and receive a day permit, a code of conduct and a map. If you are on one of our guided safaris, this will all be taken care of by your driver, but if you are self-driving, then you will need to park your vehicle and go through the normal access process.

It’s important to note that there is a quota for self-driving day visitors to the Kruger to prevent overcrowding and limit the environmental impact of visitors. In peak seasons, it helps to get to the gate early.

Gate opening times are dependent on the season and based on daylight hours, as visitors to the Park are not permitted to self-drive after dark as a matter of safety.

Here are the 2025 Gate Opening and Closing times:

Spring/Summer:

October: Opening 5:30am and Closing 18:00pm
November: Opening 5:30am and Closing 18:30pm
December: Opening 5:30am and Closing 18:30pm
January: Opening 5:30am and Closing 18:30pm
February: Opening 5:30am and Closing 18:30pm
March: Opening 5:30am and Closing 18:00pm

Autumn/Winter:

April – Opening 6:00am and Closing 17:30pm
May – Opening 6:00am and Closing 17:30pm
June – Opening 6:00am and Closing 17:30pm
July – Opening 6:00am and Closing 17:30pm
August – Opening 6:00am and Closing 18:00pm
September – Opening 6:00am and Closing 18:00pm

As part of the visitor code of conduct, gate times must be strictly adhered to and latecomers may face penalties. When planning your game drive, take the speed limits into account – maximum speeds are 50km per hour on tar roads and 40 km per hour on gravel roads. Give yourself plenty of time to reach the gate before closing to ensure you can travel safely and slowly enough to see the fantastic wildlife.

The hotel is located directly at the entrance to the Krugerpark.
All rooms and public areas are tastefully renovated and give the impression of a comfortable Safari Lodge.
The staff is friendly and very attentive.
The new (additional) pool with lounge deck and snack bar offers fantastic views of Kruger Park. Here you can often observe animals such as elephants, hippos and of course impalas.

In particular, the location and comfort make this hotel the best value for the southern Krugerpark.

Beautiful hotel with a beautiful structure that gives the impression of being suspended in the trees. The decoration is superb and the location, right in front of Kruger National Park, is exceptional.
The table is excellent, with high quality dishes.
The staff is very welcoming and particularly attentive.
A truly memorable experience!

I could not recommend the Kruger Gate Hotel more! Our experience from start to finish was flawless. We were greeted at Skukuza airport and driven through Kruger National Park to get to the hotel. That meant that even our taxi journey to the hotel featured animal sightings. The staff at the hotel were so efficient and got us checked in so quickly, even though we were a large family/friends group. We stayed for four nights and decided to do 1x full day safari, 1x morning safari and 1x afternoon safari. This allowed us to explore the National Park but also enjoy the beautiful facilities at the hotel. The safaris were excellently organised and the guides were incredible. We saw 4 out of the big 5 (sadly no leopards, although we had two very near misses where we had just missed a leopard sighting) and countless other animals. In our down time we enjoyed the three swimming pools, one of which overlooked the river and where we could see elephants on the opposite banks, and our wonderful rooms. The group was split between Deluxe Rooms and the self catering chalets. The rooms were stunning and the chalets were excellent for larger groups. The food was AMAZING! Every night we were treated to an extensive buffet in the boma with amazing singing. The ambience was incredible. On the two mornings we weren\'t on game drives we enjoyed the buffet breakfast, which was also delicious. While there a large number of our group booked treatments at the spa, which we all raved about. The trip was to celebrate my 30th Birthday and we were a large group visiting from the UK. I would like to thank everyone at the Kruger Gate Hotel for making our stay so special. I really hope that I return again in the future. Thank you again!
