How your Kruger Gate Hotel safari leaves a legacy
When you stay at our eco-friendly hotel, you do more than experience a world-class African safari. You help us to protect and support the people who live and work here.
As an employer of choice in our area, we provide long term job opportunities as well as upskilling for employment. Sustainable tourism and community upliftment guides everything that we do, and every stay with us contributes to conservation and improving lives of others.
As a responsible tourism business, we have two focus areas:
Community Enrichment
Through water and sanitation, enterprise development and education projects
Environmental Conservation
Through water, waste and power management
Community Enrichment
Innovation Africa
Innovation Africa is one of our NGO partners. They install solar-powered water pumping systems in rural areas. Their state-of-the-art technology provides clean running water which is used for drinking and farming for the communities in our immediate surrounds.
The Siyazisiza Trust
The Siyazisiza Trust helps us to connect local small-scale farmers to the hotel’s supply chain. The hotel works with the local farmers to provide fresh vegetables and fruit year round.
Dee’s African Spa at Kruger Gate Hotel
Dee’s African Spa at Kruger Gate Hotel is built through a sustainable business partnership with the hotel, the spa has grown into an award-winning enterprise that empowers Dee and her dedicated team of therapists.
Relate bracelets
Relate bracelets through the simple act of purchasing a bracelet, our guests become part of a meaningful movement that helps create lasting change in communities nationwide.
Tipfuxeni Youth Group
Tipfuxeni Youth Group is made up of young people from our neighbouring communities, many of whom are employed and supported by the hotel. Through this initiative, we help empower local youth to build sustainable livelihoods.
Kurt Safari
Kurt Safari is our preferred partner delivering Kruger Gate Safaris. The business employs members of our local community including the 10 trained game guides working at the hotel.
Uplifting education
Uplifting education – In 2021, we responded to a request from our staff to sponsor a fully-equipped and connected computer lab at JJ Matsane Primary School, where many of their children are getting an education.
Environmental Conservation
Waste Management
Recyclables are sorted and managed by a local community member. Kitchen waste is donated to a local pig farm. We reduce plastic water bottle waste by providing guests with complimentary Topia water in glass bottles in reception, all restaurants and in all our rooms. Our Coffee Shop uses recyclable PET packaging for on-the-go items.
Water Management
Water used in the hotel is pumped from the river and purified. All grey water from the hotel is treated according to strict standards and returned as potable water. Regular testing and monthly independent audits ensure that we meet water quality standards.
Power Management
We minimise our operational footprint through improved efficiencies on an ongoing basis. Energy saving initiatives include changing all air-conditioners to inverters and all lights to LEDs. Individual geysers have been replaced with central systems using heat pumps as well as gas geysers.
We’re proud to walk this path of responsible tourism with our guests, and together, help create a future where people and nature thrive.
Our Partners
Thanks to our partnerships, we are all connected in helping improve lives in our local communities.
