Wildlife, culture, dining & accommodation near Paul Kruger gate

When one dreams of an African safari, the iconic Kruger National Park is undoubtedly at the top of the list. Kruger Gate Hotel is right on the border of this sprawling wilderness teeming with diverse animal and plant life.

Staying with us gives you extraordinary access to the Park via Paul Kruger Gate, which you reach in less than a minute’s drive from the hotel reception area. On the one hand, ‘location is everything’, and on the other is a remarkable convergence of magnificent wildlife, fascinating culture, delectable dining and luxury accommodation that makes for a truly immersive safari holiday that nourishes body, mind and soul.

The Wildlife Spectacle – Reconnecting with Nature

You set off on your journey into the southern region of the Kruger National Park with the goal of seeing Africa’s Big 5 as you travel routes along the Sabie and Sand Rivers. However, it doesn’t take long before you’re engrossed in the raw beauty of this pristine wilderness and enjoying every single, fascinating sighting whether that’s lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo or the ‘little 5’ – antlion, leopard tortoise, elephant shrew, rhinoceros beetle and buffalo weaver. In Kruger Gate’s open safari vehicles, you can breathe fresh air deeply, feel the breeze in your hair and the sun on your skin and feel at one with nature. Wrapped up in the wild, you will marvel at the bright mauve and turquoise of a Lilac-breasted Roller, smile at the antics of Chacma baboons and experience the delight of encountering a little family of Banded Mongoose as they forage as a team along a dry streambed. The play of light, the beauty and the harmony all around you are as foundational to your safari experience as the wonderful chances you get to watch elephants browsing peacefully on Marula leaves and lions sleeping luxuriantly under a Leadwood tree in the heat of the day.

The Cultural Influence – Connecting with others

The greater Kruger Park region is home to the Shangaan-Tsonga and Swati people of southern Africa, who today keep alive the rich heritage and traditions of their ancestors through creative arts and spectacular entertainment. Their cultures, and that of South Africa as a whole, are woven into your Kruger Gate Hotel experiences. Elements of our architecture, design and décor are infused with traditional African influences and motifs. Our Lapa Restaurant and River Boma are renditions of authentic community spaces where people gather to share their stories, to dance, drum and sing together. You experience the warmth and openness of South African hospitality along with friendly and engaging service that welcomes you into these spaces and invites you to relax and feel genuinely connected to others.

The Culinary Delights – Nourishing the Senses

Just because you are far out of town, on the very edge of a great wilderness doesn’t mean that you can’t eat well. From the on-the-go, healthy snacks at our Coffee Shop and the delicious, assortment of Kudyela Restaurant’s breakfast offering to the Pool Bar’s handcrafted, wood-fired pizzas and the dinner feasts held nightly in the fire-lit Lapa Restaurant, we present you with a wide choice of local and international cuisines. You can extend your cultural journey with a deep-dive into South African culinary favourites such as rooster broodjies, potjiekos, braai specials and chakalaka. However, there are always options – for example, you can handpick freshly prepared stir-fry ingredients which are cooked in front of you for an enticing, flavourful dish that delights your unique palate. We focus on locally farmed, seasonal salad ingredients, vegetables, and fruits, as well as the excellent local cheeses, poultry and meats to ensure freshness and healthy nutrition. Whether you’re focused on protein-rich or gluten-free, vegetarian or pescatarian, you’ll find what you need to nourish your body and satisfy your senses.

Beautiful hotel with a beautiful structure that gives the impression of being suspended in the trees. The decoration is superb and the location, right in front of Kruger National Park, is exceptional.
The table is excellent, with high quality dishes.
The staff is very welcoming and particularly attentive.
A truly memorable experience!

I could not recommend the Kruger Gate Hotel more! Our experience from start to finish was flawless. We were greeted at Skukuza airport and driven through Kruger National Park to get to the hotel. That meant that even our taxi journey to the hotel featured animal sightings. The staff at the hotel were so efficient and got us checked in so quickly, even though we were a large family/friends group. We stayed for four nights and decided to do 1x full day safari, 1x morning safari and 1x afternoon safari. This allowed us to explore the National Park but also enjoy the beautiful facilities at the hotel. The safaris were excellently organised and the guides were incredible. We saw 4 out of the big 5 (sadly no leopards, although we had two very near misses where we had just missed a leopard sighting) and countless other animals. In our down time we enjoyed the three swimming pools, one of which overlooked the river and where we could see elephants on the opposite banks, and our wonderful rooms. The group was split between Deluxe Rooms and the self catering chalets. The rooms were stunning and the chalets were excellent for larger groups. The food was AMAZING! Every night we were treated to an extensive buffet in the boma with amazing singing. The ambience was incredible. On the two mornings we weren\'t on game drives we enjoyed the buffet breakfast, which was also delicious. While there a large number of our group booked treatments at the spa, which we all raved about. The trip was to celebrate my 30th Birthday and we were a large group visiting from the UK. I would like to thank everyone at the Kruger Gate Hotel for making our stay so special. I really hope that I return again in the future. Thank you again!
