How many nights should I spend on Kruger safari?

African safari experiences may range from as little as an overnight or two-night stay to wide-ranging odysseys of three weeks or more.

Most of us can’t take extended time out of our busy schedules so we have look at shorter holiday options that still give us plenty of opportunity to make the most our safari getaways.

At the tight end of the scale, a two-night stay in Kruger Gate’s luxury accommodation will still enable you to cover significant territory in the game-rich southern reaches of the Park. If game-watching is your only priority you can book our safari game drives each day by choosing from a selection of all-day, morning and afternoon game drives that fit in with both your stay and travel days.

However, most guests like to balance their game-watching in the Park with other activities. Relaxing at our Pool Bar & Viewing Deck gives you some time to pause, feel the bushveld ambiance and take in our unique view of the Kruger Park across the Sabie River. You might get to see elephant and antelope coming down to the river to drink and will enjoy the birdwatching without going anywhere at all. Booking a restorative treatment at our tree-top African Spa is also a popular choice, and many guests want to include the time to focus on their self-care and relaxation as part of their safari holiday.

A four-night stay is something of a sweet spot when it comes to shorter African safaris. It takes the pressure off feeling that you must be out on a game drive for every possible moment, but still gives you plenty of opportunities to adventure into the Park. This is often an ideal duration for families with young children and intergenerational groups. It also works well for couples who want to have plenty of time for each other and indulge in a couple’s spa experience and romantic private dining occasions.

A five to six-day, or longer stay with us certainly optimises your chances of ticking off Kruger’s Big 5. It’s good for birdwatchers who get more chances to experience different biomes at different times of day and it works for travellers who really want to connect with the sense of place. There’s no fear of getting bored as the unknown unfolds dynamically and differently on every safari game drive, and at Kruger Gate Hotel there is such a range of dinner options each night at our Lapa Restaurant that you will only eat the same delicious meal twice because you choose to!
