Kruger National Park entrance fees vary by nationality and age, with South African citizens and residents paying significantly less than international visitors. Day visitors can expect to pay conservation fees plus vehicle entry charges, with rates updated annually by South African National Parks. The Paul Kruger Gate, located in Mpumalanga near Skukuza, offers convenient access for visitors staying at nearby accommodations in the greater Kruger area.

Kruger National Park entrance fees: Complete guide

Few wildlife destinations on earth compare to the Kruger National Park. Stretching over 360 kilometres from north to south through the raw African bushveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces, this remarkable reserve along the borders of Mozambique and Zimbabwe is home to the Big Five, thousands of plant species, and some of the continent’s most breathtaking landscapes.

But before you pack your binoculars and hit the road from Hazyview, White River, or wherever your journey begins, there’s one practical matter worth getting right: Kruger National Park entrance fees. Knowing the current 2026 fee structure means no surprises at the gate, a smoother start to your safari, and a budget that actually reflects what you’ll spend. This guide breaks down everything you need to know, from per-person rates and vehicle charges to annual passes and payment options. You’ll be prepared whether you’re planning a single day visit or a multi-day adventure.

Understanding Kruger National Park entry fee categories

South African citizens and residents vs international visitors

The fee structure operates on a two-tier system designed to make the park accessible to local communities while generating conservation revenue from international tourism.

  • South African citizens and residents benefit from substantially reduced rates, reflecting the park’s status as a national heritage site. Valid identification is required to qualify for these preferential rates.
  • International visitors pay higher conservation fees that directly fund wildlife protection, anti-poaching operations, and habitat maintenance throughout the park’s vast ecosystem.

Age-based pricing structure

The park recognises different age categories with corresponding rate adjustments:

  • Adults: Full rate applies to visitors aged 12 and above
  • Children: Reduced rates for ages 2-11 years
  • Infants: Typically free entry for children under 2 years

Vehicle Kruger National Park entry fees and additional Charges

Standard vehicle categories

Beyond personal entrance fees, all vehicles entering Kruger National Park incur additional charges based on size and type:

  • Light Vehicles: Standard cars, SUVs, and light trucks fall into this category, with fees calculated per vehicle regardless of passenger capacity.
  • Larger Vehicles: Buses, trucks, and vehicles exceeding specific dimensions face higher entry charges due to increased infrastructure impact.

Motorcycle and bicycle access

The park accommodates alternative transportation methods with adjusted fee structures for motorcycles and, in designated areas, bicycles under specific guided programmes.

  • Anti-poaching operations across the park’s 19,485 square kilometres
  • Wildlife research and monitoring programmes
  • Habitat restoration and maintenance
  • Community conservation education initiatives

Special activity permits

Certain activities within Kruger National Park require additional permits and fees beyond standard entry charges:

  • Game drives: Self-drive access is included with entry fees, but guided game drives through tour operators incur separate charges.
  • Walking safaris: Specialised walking trails require advance booking and additional fees for qualified guides and safety equipment.
  • Photography permits: Commercial photography and filming activities require special permits with associated fees.

Planning your visit: Fee calculation examples

  2. Child entrance fees: 2 × current international child rate
  3. Vehicle entry fee: 1 × light vehicle rate
  4. Total day visit cost: Sum of above components

Kruger National Park gate access points and fee consistency

Major entry gates

  • Paul Kruger Gate (Skukuza): The park’s main southern entrance near Skukuza, offering closest access to central game viewing areas and the Sabie River region.
  • Phabeni Gate: Located near Hazyview, providing convenient access for visitors from the Panorama Route and nearby Mpumalanga attractions.
  • Numbi Gate: Southern access point popular with day visitors from White River and Nelspruit areas.
  • Crocodile Bridge Gate: Southeastern entrance offering unique crocodile viewing opportunities along the Crocodile River.

Each gate operates standardised payment systems and fee structures, ensuring consistency regardless of your chosen entry point into this magnificent Mpumalanga wilderness area.

I’m someone who loves traveling and exploring the world. I must say without a doubt that this was the most beautiful hotel I have ever seen, with the kindest staff imaginable. It’s surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, offering a simple yet comfortable atmosphere. At any moment, you might come across elephants, monkeys, and other animals. It was an absolutely amazing experience. I highly recommend it to everyone!

(Translated by Google) A fantastic, spacious, and modern hotel complex with a lovely ambiance. The staff was always friendly and attentive. The on-site shop, several restaurants and cafés, a gym, and the beautiful spa area are particularly convenient.

We booked half-board and an additional 60-minute massage – absolutely heavenly! The ambiance, technology, and professionalism of the spa are truly unparalleled.

The location right at the Kruger Gate is perfect for safaris. We booked a full-day safari through the hotel. With only two other couples, we had plenty of space in the vehicle. Our guide/driver was superb, spotted many animals, and explained everything in a very engaging way.

Since we started our safari early, we always received our breakfast as a packed lunch – excellent organization. Dinner each evening was a large, plentiful buffet with regional and international delicacies. Highly recommended!

Klare Empfehlung!

It was simply wonderful. Visually, the hotel is already a real eye-catcher. But the service is truly outstanding! I travel a lot and have rarely experienced such genuine hospitality. Moreover, the cuisine is extremely delicious, and the selection of dishes is varied and beautifully presented. The location right next to the Paul Kruger Gate is optimal.
Thank you for allowing me to experience this!
