Kruger National Park safari packages: Why choose us

Kruger Gate Hotel is the premier gateway to one of the world’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Our Kruger National Park tour packages are built around guest experience.

A lady in a hat looking out to a herd of elephants from an offroad vehicle while enjoying Kruger National Park safari packages

Kruger Gate Hotel offers luxury Kruger National Park safari packages combining Big 5 game drives, award-winning dining, and a spa retreat, all within metres of the Paul Kruger Gate. Guests enjoy year-round access to the park, upscale accommodation, and personalised service from an experienced hospitality team, making it the premier base for an authentic South African safari.

The case for a dedicated base with our Kruger National Park safari packages

Choosing the right Kruger National Park safari package is about far more than the game drive itself. Where guests sleep, eat, and recover between drives shapes the entire experience.

Kruger Gate Hotel sits metres from the Paul Kruger Gate, an unparalleled entry point into the Kruger National Park. That proximity is not a marketing phrase; it is a geographic fact that saves hours of travel time and places guests inside the park’s rhythms from the moment they arrive.

What sets Kruger Gate Hotel apart

Location at the park gate

Most safari hotels or lodges require guests to drive 30–60 minutes before reaching the park boundary. Kruger Gate Hotel is located metres from the entrance, meaning game drives begin the instant the gates open, usually at first light, when wildlife activity peaks.

This is especially valuable for families and couples who want to maximise time in the park without sacrificing comfort.

Luxury accommodation designed for the bush

The Deluxe Rooms & Suites at Kruger Gate Hotel are designed to reflect the textures and tones of the African bushveld, without compromising on modern amenities. Each room offers air conditioning, premium bedding, and views that connect guests to the surrounding landscape. After a full day in the park, returning to genuine comfort matters.

Year-Round Safari Access

The Kruger National Park is open every month of the year, and each season delivers a distinct wildlife experience. Summer months bring lush greenery and excellent birdwatching. Winter months offer sparser vegetation, which makes spotting the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) much easier.

Kruger Gate Hotel does not recommend one season over another, because no season disappoints. Our Kruger National Park holiday packages are structured to deliver value and experience regardless of when travellers visit.

Guided morning and afternoon drives into Kruger

Safari restaurant dining

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in an award-winning setting. Pool bar and infinity pool access

Kruger National Park holiday packages for families

Kruger Gate Hotel is well set up for family travel. Dedicated family room options (available with two queen or two king beds) remove the need for connecting room workarounds, while the self-catering chalets suit families who prefer more flexibility around mealtimes.

Younger guests are catered for through the hotel’s Junior Ranger activity book and child-appropriate wildlife content. The family pool provides a safe and separate swim option during rest periods between drives.

The gate-adjacent location is a practical advantage for families working within a tight itinerary: no wasted transfer time, early morning drives depart promptly at first light, and children spend more time in the park rather than in transit.

Dining as part of the safari experience

A safari package should nourish guests as fully as it inspires them. The dining options at Kruger Gate Hotel deliver exactly that.

Our menus draw on South African culinary heritage: local ingredients, bold flavours, and presentation that honours the setting. The river boma, infinity pool, & viewing deck offer a more immersive outdoor experience: dining beside the Sabie River as the sounds of the surrounding bush.

Private dining arrangements can be configured to complement retreats and incentive travel programmes for corporate groups.

Wellness after the wild

Game drives are exhilarating. They are also long, physically demanding, and emotionally full. The treetop African Spa at Kruger Gate Hotel is designed to restore guests.

Treatments are rooted in African wellness traditions, using indigenous botanicals and techniques developed over generations. The spa rounds out the Kruger park vacation package experience, whether guests choose a deep tissue massage after a full-day drive or a restorative facial on a rest day.

How to plan your Kruger Safari package

Planning travel packages to Kruger National Park does not need to be complicated. Follow these steps to build the right experience:

  • Choose your travel dates. Kruger is rewarding year-round. Consider your priorities: dense greenery and birdlife in summer, or open bush and Big 5 visibility in winter.
  • Select your accommodation tier. Kruger Gate Hotel offers Deluxe Rooms, Suites, and Self-Catering Chalets. Review the options to match your group size and preferences.
  • Decide on your game drive frequency. Most packages include one or two drives per stay. A three-night stay with two drives gives a well-rounded experience.
  • Add dining preferences. Confirm a half board (breakfast and dinner included) stay if required. For lunch, guests can enjoy the a la carte menu at the Pool Deck, coffee or a light meal at the coffee shop, or room service.
  • Consider spa and wellness add-ons. Book treatments at the spa before arrival — popular time slots fill quickly during peak periods.
  • Planning a corporate or group trip? Contact the events team. They can structure a bespoke package for retreats or incentive trips.
  • Confirm your arrival logistics. The nearest airports are Skukuza, Kruger Mpumalanga International, Hoedspruit, and OR Tambo International in Johannesburg. Transfer arrangements should be confirmed at booking.

Why corporate groups choose Kruger Gate Hotel

The rise of “bleisure” travel, combining business with leisure, has made safari retreats one of the most sought-after corporate incentives in South Africa.

Kruger Gate Hotel’s event facilities offer premium conference infrastructure set against the backdrop of the African bush. Delegates can attend morning sessions and be inside Kruger National Park by midday, an experience no city-based venue can replicate.

Our Kruger National Park holiday packages offer something genuinely distinctive for event planners: productivity and reward in a single location.

Guest Reviews

(Translated by Google) The hotel is located right by the Kruger Gate, making it very easy to get into the park for safaris. From the pool bar, you can look directly out onto the Sabie River, where you can often spot various animals such as elephants and hippos – a real highlight.

The rooms were lovely, well-maintained, and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The only minor drawback was the bathroom ventilation, which wasn't great.

The breakfast buffet is very extensive and offers something for everyone; it was delicious.

Another highlight is the evening buffet. The atmosphere in the restaurant, with its fire, is incredibly cozy, and there's a local band playing every evening for entertainment, which was very cool and interesting. The food selection is huge and of very high quality.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel; it was a wonderful and unforgettable stay.

The property is built to a high standard and in a very stylish african way. It is well maintained and clean.

For dinner, you can choose between the buffet at the Lapa Restaurant or the optional private dining hut, where you can enjoy both the excellent food and the wonderful atmosphere.

The staff are friendly and attentive.

The pool overlooking the Sabi River is definitely one of the highlights. From your sun lounger, you can spot wildlife throughout the day, which makes the experience even more special.

Both the breakfast and dinner buffets are extensive, beautifully presented and delicious.

A visit is definitely recommended

We've an amazing experience with them!!

A well run hotel, providing easy of access to the early morning game drives with the advantage of a decent stay and evening meal compared to most of the safaris with glamping/camping offerings.
Sorry to have missed out on the breakfast for 5 of the 7 nights stayed due to the early start… but then again one can’t really get the best of both worlds.

Me and my family came here now for the 3rd time.

Our 4 day stay was awsome and we are definitely coming back soon again.

We stayed at this hotel in early September. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and cozy with a comfortable bed and a warm blanket. The hotel overlooks the park and various animals—such as antelopes, elephants and different birds visit the pool area during the day. The breakfast and dinner spreads offered a great variety of dishes. For a morning safari we were provided with a breakfast box containing yogurt with muesli, sandwiches (there is choice to order), fruit, snacks, juice; there was more than enough food. The dinners by the campfire were magnificent. We booked both morning and afternoon safaris through the hotel and they were fantastic. Our guide was wonderful—he did his best to ensure we got the best photos and saw as much wildlife as we could; a special thanks to him for that! Monkeys visited the pool area in the mornings. Only positive impressions of the hotel! Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay!

Absolutely fantastic place and stay. Lovely reception, nice room, really delicious and varied food - (though the lunch box sandwich was unusually hard every day) more than ordinary fantastic view. All staff were sweet, smiling, and helpful. Cozy with entertainment in the evening. Thanks

The property sits on the edge of the park providing easy access to the Safari drives without having to stay in a campsite or even glamping….
A decent buffet awaits at the end of each day along with proper rooms and staying facilities.
Breakfast is also served however on safari days it’s sadly missed due to the early start, the packed breakfast does not come up to the breakfast missed out… a compromise at the end of the day.

Kruger was the best experience ever! Our safari guide, Famous Amos was very knowledgeable and guided us to the African Big Five:)

Only a year and a month had passed, and there I was again, sitting on the terrace of the Kruger Gate Hotel next to the amazing Infinity Pool—though this time I didn’t go for a swim 😊. Instead, I sat on the deck and worked on my computer; there was no other choice ☹. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying a few wonderful moments once again at this fantastic open-air hotel. Looking up from the monitor every now and then, picking up my binoculars, and admiring the view of elephants, hippos, buffalo, nyallas, and other iconic African animals wasn’t a problem at all, even while working. I just had to, as always, watch out for the crafty vervet monkeys, who don’t hesitate to seize any opportunity to steal some food from an inattentive hotel guest 😊. I’d like to point out once again that this is an open-air hotel, so it’s common to encounter wild animals right on the premises. That, too, adds to the hotel’s African authenticity. And that’s exactly what I like. But to get back to my work sessions on the deck I’ll remind you again that the hotel is located on the banks of the Sabie River—that is, right on the border of Kruger National Park—and is surrounded on all other sides by private game reserves. This means it’s literally surrounded by the African wilderness, with everything that comes with it. So the aforementioned delight of watching the animals takes place right on the banks of this legendary river—or, rather, right in it. I’ve spent many days at the Kruger Gate Hotel, but I don’t recall ever seeing so many elephants crossing the river in both directions in a single day. Nor do I recall so many hippos and buffalo coming right up to the terrace after dark. This time I spent only one day (and one night) at the hotel, but once again, it was worth it. And I didn’t even have to go on a game drive—which I really didn’t this time; I just didn’t have time ☹.
And just as much—if not more—I’m sorry that I didn’t get to meet all the people who work at the hotel and whom I remember from the past (for example, Amos, who works as a guide taking guests on safari trips to the park for the hotel). But I’m glad I at least got to meet the general manager, Miguel. At least for a moment, since he was busy the whole time. I’d like to say hello to him and hope he enjoyed the Slovak Horalky cookies 😊. On the other hand, I once again enjoyed the excellent cuisine, which is always worth it. Speaking for myself, I can say that the culinary experiences at this hotel are unbeatable. With a buffet-style meal, it’s practically impossible to eat in moderation 😊. And when you add the evening performances by traditional African dancers to the mix, the experience goes far beyond just a culinary delight—it’s truly top-notch 😊.
If anyone wants to experience authentic African wilderness, luxurious accommodations, and fantastic cuisine all in one place, I definitely recommend the Kruger Gate Hotel. You won’t be disappointed. I’d also like to add that the friendly and helpful staff will certainly make your stay there even more enjoyable. I don’t know when I’ll return to South Africa (though I didn’t know that during any of my ten visits either), but when I do, I won’t pass up the Kruger Gate Hotel.

An unforgettable experience in South Africa and Kruger National

We have seen and experienced so much during our stay – incredible wildlife, beautiful landscapes and moments that we will remember for a very long time. Every day brought something new, and being able to see these animals in their natural environment was truly special.

I would absolutely love to come back one day. This part of South Africa has made a huge impression on me, and Kruger is a place I will never forget.

Thank you for an amazing adventure! ❤️🐘🦁🦒
Thanks to wonderful cleaning ladies , all staff in restaurants, Reception, and all functions.

Had a wonderful three night stay in this superb hotel, right on the park gates. Room was comfortable, spacious and clean. The whole hotel lends itself to the Safari experience. If Disney were to do a safari hotel it wouldn’t look this good, nor be this authentic, nor would the service be anywhere near as excellent.

A range of safari game drives can be booked through the hotel and SANParks own drives (providing access to Kruger after normal hours) will also pick you up from the hotel. Booked both group and private drives - saw the big five, plus many more, including cheetahs up very close. Most people I spoke to had seen the big five over a couple of days, even on shared drives. The advantage of a private drive is the rapport you build with the guide and - above all - control, so you can ask the driver to fill the gaps in your “must see” list, I’d recommend doing this after a shared drive. Morning drives do feel like a hunt as countless guides all race to sightings of big cats while they’re still active. All day drives allow a more relaxed pace after the initial rush. The hotel provides a packed breakfast when going out on Safari.

I looked at various options and whilst stays in private reserves have a number of advantages, the price tag is huge. Kruger Gate Hotel, for me, was a great compromise as all that separates you from the Park is the Sabi River. You do have to figure in conservation fees whenever you enter the park, including transfers from/to Skakuza Airport (easy to see why it was voted prettiest airport in the world).

Its location does mean that animals come right up to the viewing terrace/infinity pool, including buffaloes and a family of elephants while I was there.

Staff are mega friendly and helpful - cannot fault their attentiveness. They sorted out a problem quickly and even sent a complimentary bottle of wine to the room to make up for the issue.

Food is buffet-style which might not be to everyone’s liking, but there’s a massive choice and you’re sure to find something to your taste. Do watch spice levels though: I had a wors which blew my head off and I am pretty tolerant of spicy foods.

All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel which gives 95% of the experience of staying on a private reserve without the price tag and feels every bit like a five star hotel.

We loved our stay at Kruger Gate Hotel. The proximity to the Paul Kruger Gate made access to the morning safaris quick and easy. The breakfast and dinner buffets were unbelievable - so much variety each day. Absolute compliments to the chefs and kitchen staff. We also loved the bar and heated pool overlooking the Sabie River where we could enjoy a cocktail while spotting wildlife on the river banks. We appreciated that there was a Bluu car hire desk at the hotel as we were able to organise our own self-drive in Kruger through them. We also went on the whole day safari from the hotel - our guide was fabulous but the prices seemed higher than other providers who would have come to pick you up so perhaps some advice to shop around.

Hotel maravilhoso.
