Today’s travellers are prioritising immersive experiences, digitally disconnecting to merge rather with real life, nature, culture and other people. When they go on holiday, they are focused on their health and well-being, quality of sleep, time and space for resting and resetting. They also want authentic, energising experiences that ignite awe and creativity.
It’s not surprising that in our times of tech overload today’s travellers are particularly keen on holidays where they can truly unwind, relax and reset. In 2024, nature-based travel is high on the global agenda. Travellers are looking for opportunities to focus on connecting with others, tuning into life’s natural rhythms and paying attention to their well-being in a tranquil environment.
For those looking for luxury accommodation at the Kruger National Park, here are some of the ways we are meeting and exceeding the expectations of today’s guests:
Putting aside our devices, at least for a while
The more technology takes over our lives, the more nature we need. After all, we are hard-wired to love nature and to thrive when we are immersed in it. On a Kruger safari, the South African bushveld makes us feel alive, awakening all our senses. Time spent in a pristine wilderness can boost the resilience of heart, mind and body. The splendour of witnessing sunrises and sunsets, rivers and woodlands, a leopard and a Bateleur Eagle are awe-inspiring and refresh the spirit. Sharing wildlife adventures with our partners, family and friends strengthens bonds and builds unforgettable memories. Relaxing at our serene Pool Bar & Viewing Deck zone is one our guests’ favourite pastimes during their stay. Under the canopy of huge riverine trees, the alfresco lounge has endless views across the Sabie River into the Kruger Park. While you’re taking a dip or enjoying lunch, you might well get to watch Elephants on the river’s edge right in front of you.
Exploring local gastronomies
Each evening after sunset, the mellow chimes of a brass gong invite you into our Lapa Restaurant to enjoy a fireside African feast under the stars. Our Chef makes sure there is something delicious to suit everyone’s tastes with a spread that includes international cuisines while also giving guests plenty of options when it comes to sampling local specialities. South African favourites such as braaied meats and rooster broodjies, cheesy grilled sandwiches made from farmhouse bread, are freshly prepared over glowing coals. Standout local dishes include Cape Malay chicken curry and traditional lamb bobotie. For the adventurous, there are venison roasts such as wildebeest, kudu and impala, and our speciality Crocodile Curry is always a popular choice. South African cuisine is notable for its excellent, authentic desserts, and those with a sweet tooth enjoy trying originals such as Malva Pudding, Peppermint Crips Tart, Milktart and Koeksisters.
Relishing the goodness of travel
Creature comforts, restorative sleep and health and wellness are all top of mind for guests. Luxury beds with plush bedding, delicious, healthy meals, ‘dry-tripping’ options and peaceful spaces to relax are all important. Amenities such as a fitness centre, swimming pools and sports facilities help guests maintain physical activities when they are far from home. Keeping up our small daily indulgences also makes us happy which is why our centrally located coffee shop is open early to late so that guests can grab a gourmet coffee from our baristas whenever they need a fix. A visit to our African Spa, set on the bank of the Sabie River will entice you to deeply relax and focus on your well-being. Surrounded by wilderness and birdsong, you will find yourself in the caring hands of our expert therapists who will pamper you with a range of holistic beauty and stress relief treatments in a stunning setting.
For many, especially those travelling from afar, a Kruger safari is a holiday of a lifetime, and we want our guests to experience their stay with us as life-enriching, from the thrill of game drives to their dining experiences and encounters with South African culture.
