Families on Kruger safaris during July school holidays

South Africa’s long winter school holiday is ideal for taking the family on an unforgettable Kruger safari.

With clear skies and mild daytime temperatures, it’s a comfortable time to be in the bush. As the dry season sets in, game-watching is enhanced due to the sparser vegetation and the congregation of predators and prey around the permanent water sources. Not only is a Kruger safari holiday one of the most thrilling and adventuresome experiences for families, but many also believe that it is the birthright of all South African children to encounter our precious wildlife heritage in the iconic Kruger National Park.

Kruger Gate Hotel offers families optimum African safari experiences including a range of guided safari game drives with special rates for children under 12. Families with children over 3 and under 12 years can book a private Kruger safari with a guide who will help identifying different species as well as answer questions and provide fun animal facts. To book a shared game drive, your children must be 6 years and up. Self-driving through the Paul Kruger Gate, which is less than a minute’s drive from the hotel, is also a good option for families who want to go at their own pace.

We make it easier for families to enjoy Kruger safari getaways and our luxury accommodation by enabling 2 children under 12 years to stay free of charge with two paying adults. This includes their complementary breakfasts at our Kudyela Restaurant and their dinners at the Lapa Restaurant. You can find a guide to our range of family-friendly accommodation options on our blog here.

Kruger Gate Hotel offers kid-friendly dining options such as the delicious s’mores and roosterbroodjies at the Lapa Restaurant and favourite kiddie’s dishes on all our menus. There are plenty of fun activities including a dedicated family swimming pool with a pool bar for parents, tennis and volleyball courts, putt-putt and outdoor chess. Our African Spa also includes kid-friendly treatment options.

By far the highlight of your family safari holiday will be ranging through the exciting Big 5 territory of the Kruger, spotting animals and birds together, learning about ecosystems and the circle of life first hand. Sharing these kinds of awe-inspiring experiences will not only make family memories your kids will treasure for a lifetime but help them to foster a lifelong appreciation of nature and conservation.
